1. You spend an hour looking for your toddler’s shoes.
And you never find them. And you give up & decide you’ll just buy her a new pair at the store when you get there, because it’s just not worth your time to keep looking….but then they magically appear in the living room, where you had looked for them 50 times!
2. Because this conversation has happened 4 times in the last month….
The first time, you heard the phone ringing & it sounded a long way off. It was under the sink, in the master bath, in a cup, buried under the kids’ bath letters.
The second time, Lboy found it in the backyard under the slide thanks to O.
The third time it was in a shoe….. in the wetbar (why does a toddler need my shoes AND my phone?!)
Today, I found it under a blanket in my bedroom. I lost the phone while looking for the blasted shoes!!!
3. You forget 4.5 year olds don’t use the same logic as you do.
“Lboy, do not chase after your sister in the store. It makes her run off & then I can’t find either one of you & it scares me. It’s not safe.”
“BUUUUUT MOOOOOOM!!! YOU’RE HURTING MY FEELINGS! DON’T USE MEAN WORDS, JUST FORGIVE ME PLEASE?!” I might add, that he’s saying it in the sweetest, saddest voice, with huge tears in his big blue eyes all while looking at me like I just told him I’m leaving & never coming back.
4. Eating in a restaurant is an entirely new experience.
And you’re instantly reminded of this the minute food ends up in your lap, the toddler bolts to the back of the restaurant & the 4.5 year old just announced to the entire restaurant that he “snooted” and it smells wicked! (Snoot is Lboy language for passing gas, I have 0 ideas where he came up with the word.)
5. You hear sibling giggles & they make your heart melt.
It’s really one of the best sounds in the world! And you don’t care if they are about to gang up on you & take the whole house down with them, it’s absolutely precious to see & hear their sibling world growing & developing. The best thing my parents ever did for me was give me 4 siblings (but don’t tell them…I have a favorite!)
