How often do you take a break from responsibility?
I mean, true breaks! Not a day where someone takes the kids & you spend your time working or running errands, but a break where you have time to yourself.
Today, I had such a break. The first break that was all about what I wanted to do and it was amazing!
A few weeks ago, I asked my mother-in-law to take the kids for an hour so I could be somewhere at 9:30 & she offered to take the kids for the entire day. THE.ENTIRE.DAY. Can we say awesome? Yes, yes we can.
My day started with getting Lboy ready for preschool (yes, ladies & gents, he is in preschool! He was just a baby when I started this blog!), both kids went to be with grandma, & all of a sudden I was in an empty house with nothing to do.
What did I do?! Did I workout? Did I pick up? Did I wash/dry/fold laundry? Nope. Nope. Nope. & Nope.
I crawled into my big, white, fluffy bed & watched Good Morning America.
Went to my appointment.
Came home from said appointment & crawled back in bed to watch The View, where I might point out one of my tweets showed up on the TV (does this make me Twitter Famous?!)
I had lunch with my sister.
And then, you guessed it, went back to bed for a 2.5 hour nap, ate some left over pizza, & then the kids came home & it was their bed time.
I’m pretty sure that this is the first time in 4.5 years that I have had an entire day to myself to do what I *wanted* to do as opposed to doing a lot that I *needed* to do.
I highly, highly recommend taking a break if you have someone who will give you one! And when you get that break, focus on what you want, get some Starbucks, take naps, read that book you’ve been wanting to dive into….
I promise, you will be so glad that you did!

When my kids were smaller (they’re in middle and high school now) I could count on one hand the # of times we had baby sitters. Two of them were while I was in the hospital having another kid. I always swore that I’d be around to help my girls with their kids so they can have a day like this. Enjoy!
