This year, December snuck up on me. We are selling a house, driving Lboy back & forth to preschool (which was not a long term something we thought we would be doing), did I mention we are selling a house?! And even though it’s December 12 & I’m still not fully convinced that it’s December yet, it’s starting to sink in, FAST.
When I was in the 6th grade, my great-aunt asked if she could pick me up to have my hair done as a co-birthday outing for the two of us (my birthday is on the 19th & hers was on the 20th.) She picked me up, took me to a hair salon where the hair stylists did this beautiful up do & I had my first ever manicure! It was the Christmas formal for my cotillion class that night & I had the most beautiful cream, lace dress with little pearl buttons on the front. It was gorgeous. I remember being so proud of how I looked that night, it was the first time I ever looked in a mirror & thought “I am beautiful!” That night was magic!
When I turned 13, my parents let me invite then entire 7th grade & 8th grade to go my grandparents’ farm! Oh.my.gosh! That was the best party ever! We had a hayride, a bonfire, a marshmallow roast, we grilled out…it was an entire night of fun! I was so proud! It was such a fun night & after that, it became a tradition for my family on the 13th birthday for each of my siblings they got the same party.
I had a huge co-16th birthday party with a classmate at a mutual friend’s house (she really had the coolest house!) My mom planned a surprise 18th birthday lunch at the Purple Cow, my 21st was spent with a surprise dinner at my favorite restaurant in Little Rock & my mom arranged for them to bring me a beer instead of a cupcake (and there might have been another party once I got back to school in January with the night ending at a frat party once we all got back to school! ha!)
On my 23rd birthday, Todd proposed at the downtown square! My 25th, I was pregnant with Lboy & went home to have a big cake with my family & Todd.
All the birthdays in between those years were family parties & Â they were always celebrated with a phone call to my grandmother whose birthday was on the 21st of December. She would call to wish me a happy birthday & then 2 days later I would call & tell her I was sending her birthday wishes back.
Another VERY IMPORTANT phone call is my dad’s friend, Dave. Dave & I have literally talked on the phone on OUR birthdays every.single.year as far back as I can remember. And now we race to see who will call the other one first. He always tries to trick me when he calls (he’s a great prankster) but this little invention of caller ID has ruined that! ha!
This year, I’m turning 30! I can’t wait to write a post telling you how we celebrated (because I have no clue what we’re going to do!) But one thing I can tell you, I will definitely be talking to Dave, I will definitely be sending up a birthday wish to my grandmother in heaven, & I will definitely be enjoying my time with my kids & my husband…. and going to the local bakery for some strawberry cupcakes with strawberry icing! That is my birthday must have flavor & it has to be store bought!
1.) Something you love about December.
2.) Capture a conversation shared between kids.
3.) A favorite Christmas ornament.
4.) Christmas Must Haves (could even be a list created by a child)
5.) Talk about a problem you tackled this week.

My birthday is Dec 20th! I, too, don’t feel like it’s December yet even though we’re almost halfway through! HA! I’m really not a huge birthday celebrator–I just feel uncomfortable with the attention being on me, but my favorite “adult” birthday was my 25th. We dressed up from the 80s and went to a drag queen show/restaurant, then drinking downtown. It was hilarious! 😉 This year, the best bday present is (hopefully) going to be finding out whether we’re having a girl or a boy! All your birthday parties seem so fabulous! Makes you feel blessed, huh?! Happy early 30th!

Hi Kate! December is probably the most special with the bright holiday spirit that brings. It is always associated with long vacation, warm and sweet emotions and lost of presents. You are very lucky to have your b-day at that exactly time of the year. Happy Birthday and Happy Holidays! 🙂
